What's New - Pet Food Recall - (3/25/2007)

Recently Menu foods company, which manufactures canned pet food for several different companies, announced a large recall. The food affected are chunks and gravy style canned and pouched foods. No dry food is affected. You can view a list of brands affected at www.menufoods.com. You should be able to return these cans or pouches back to the place you bought them from.

These foods have been shown to cause kidney failure, so they are being recalled. If your pet has been eating any of these foods, please stop feeding it immediately! If you notice your pet is drinking more water then usual, has vomiting or diarrhea, or is just not feeling well, please bring it in to your veterinarian for blood and urine testing. The toxicological agent causing these problems has been identified as aminopterin, a rodenticide or rat poison. The treatment (if affected) is hospitalization and aggressive IV fluid therapy. Once the food source has been removed, there should be no more problems. This is dose related. If your pet only eats a small amount of the affected food, it will probably not be affected – at least not severely. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding your pet.
